Thousands of acres of farmland in Delta set for auction

Approximately 4,783 acres of cropland in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi has been slated for auction Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company is managing the auction, in cooperation with Walker Auctions and Paul A. Lynn & Associates LLC.

Almost half the land - 2,357 acres - is located in Sunflower County, Mississippi, and will be offered in seven tracts ranging from 190 to 418 acres. It includes tracts near Shelby, Drew and Indianola.

Another 1,294 acres near Lake Village in Chicot County, Arkansas, will be offered in tracts of 634 acres and 640 acres.

The 1,152 acres in Louisiana is located near Sicily Island in Catahoula Parish and will be offered as a single tract.

The auction will begin at 10 a.m. at the Washington County Convention Center, in Greenville, with a satellite bidding location at the Natchez Grand Hotel, in Natchez.

"There are very few opportunities to obtain this much quality Delta farmland at auction in a single day," said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company. "Most of the land is precision leveled and irrigated. Bidders may make offers on a single tract, any combination, or even all of the land being offered that day. Our method of bidding puts the bidders on equal footing regardless of how much land they're seeking to buy," he said.

The farms, he noted, have been used in recent years for growing corn, soybeans, cotton, milo and rice. "Across the board, this is productive land with a proven track record for a variety of crops," he said.

Online bidding will be available during the live auction.

The auction is part of the offering of approximately 13,450 acres, also including land in Illinois, Texas and Colorado.
