Missouri cattle farm to sell at auction

A 1,200-acre cattle farm in Lawrence County, Mo., will sell at auction Thursday, June 28, with Schrader Real Estate & Auction Company managing the sale. The property is located in Mt. Vernon, approximately 35 miles west of Springfield.

The farm, which has a carrying capacity of 400 cows, includes pasture, buildings and land for year-round hay production, with paved roads throughout the property. The farm will sell in 16 tracts, ranging from approximately six acres to 163 acres.

"Taken as a whole, this is a self-contained, well-equipped cattle farm with excellent improvements, including pole buildings, equipment storage, other facilities, and a home. The land has a lot of variety, including a creek that winds through it and some wooded areas that are suitable for recreational use," said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company.

Schrader said the land is being sold in tracts to enable bidders to purchase just the land that suits their needs.

"Not everyone is in a position to buy the entire 1,200 acres, so our system of bidding allows more people to participate. Someone might, for example, be interested in the six-acre tract that includes the home. Others might be seeking hay and pasture land, or the cattle working area with chutes, gates and pens. Bidders will be able to make bids on almost any combination of tracts. As a result, we could have one buyer for the entire property or several bidders, each purchasing parts of it," said Schrader.

The auction will be held at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center (MARC) at 6 p.m. Schrader personnel will be available to provide information and guide inspections on May 31 and June 14.
